LORAIN, OH (WOIO) - The process of laying off workers began this week at Lorain Tubular Steel.
A company spokeswoman told 19 Action News that the layoffs are due to low oil and gas prices, which reduced the demand for the pipe they make that is used in drilling.
The layoffs could be in the 600's, but the numbers will fluctuate depending on market conditions.
The company sent 614 warning notices, as a precaution.
These are not permanent layoffs, if gas prices go back up, the workers will be brought back.
