CANTON, OH (WOIO) - Starting Tuesday, officers with the Canton Police Department will begin wearing the new body cameras. Officers will receive training during their annual 40 hour in service training on the operation of these cameras. Over the next 12 weeks all uniformed officers, including supervisors, will receive a camera.

The cameras will be used during interactions with the public.

The Canton Police Department chose the Vievu brand of camera for deployment. The Vievu clips to the front of the officer's shirt, and the officer slides a plastic panel up or down to start or stop recording.

The selection process took approximately 18 months and involved several different brands of camera. The project cost was $73,000.
