MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) - Georges Abboud has been arrested several times for drunk driving. Now he has added something new to his resume. He is accused of driving high on both drugs and alcohol.
The latest accusation comes after a head-on crash with a police cruiser, while Abboud was trying to get on I-71 going the wrong way on the Bagley Road Ramp.
Dash cam video obtained exclusively by 19 Action News shows Officer Randy Cowie pulling onto the exit ramp. As he does, he comes face to face with a car driven by Abboud.
Officer Cowie tried to warn Abboud with his siren but to no avail. The officer will be okay, but weeks later is still off the job.
We tried to question Abboud at his Westlake home, but he slammed the door on us.
Abboud is part owner of the Brown Derby in Middleburg Heights near the ramp. He should be familiar with the area.
"A number of years ago he did the same thing on the same ramp," said Police Chief John Maddox.
In 2009 Abboud drove the wrong direction on I-71 for almost a mile before being stopped. He refused to cooperate in any way and when an officer tried to fingerprint him, he bit the officer on the hand.
Abboud has a hearing in Berea Municipal Court later this month. Because of the way Ohio law is written he could only face misdemeanor charges.
