AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

Akron Police are searching for a man they say is responsible for a disgusting crime.

Police say the man has been defecating on or in people's cars in the Kenmore neighborhood. Police say the suspect relieves himself on the hoods of vehicles, or inside the vehicle if a door is open. He has also smeared fecal matter on car door handles.

A total of 20 incidents have occurred over the past two and a half years; the most recent was Tuesday morning.

"Human poop, you can tell, and stink, oh my God. It was terrible," said Mildred Crisp.

Crisp, 79, and her great grandson are among the many victims.

"Clean off the human mess off the car. Took a bucket of water, clean it all off. Now that's a shame," said Crisp.

Investigators hope someone recognizes this man who seems to be terrorizing the same neighborhood time and again.

"It's important for us to find out who this is and either get them the help they need, or get them incarcerated," said Lt. Rick Edwards with Akron Police.

"To have somebody do that -- and twice that happened. I hope he gets arrested and put away. He should," said Crisp.

Several police reports have been filed. If caught, police say the man could be charged with criminal mischief.

If you have any information that could help catch the man responsible, call Akron Police at (330) 375-2552.
