Detectives were led to Cunard's body after a suspect confessed to the crime.
Authorities say that 30-year-old Tony Primm of Garfield Heights shared the information after he was involved in an early morning shootout with police following an attempted traffic stop on Saturday.
Police tried to pull Primm over on Broadway but he sped away onto Granger Road, where he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a home.
An exchange of gunfire took place when Primm exited the vehicle and began firing at officers with an assault rifle.
Officers returned fire but Primm gave up before anyone was shot.
During his arrest, Primm told officers that he had shot a man at a home on Broadway. While being handcuffed Primm allegedly said to officers, "I shot him cuz he put his hands on my mother!"
When police found Cunard, he was dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
Another man and woman at the home were taken into custody for questioning.
The investigation is ongoing.
