The Cleveland Division of Police is currently investigating a case that involves a teen suspect firing a gun while being pursued by a Cleveland Police Sergeant.
This incident occurred on Saturday, March 14, in the area of E. 83rd and Golden Ave.
Around 9:45 a.m. a Third District Cleveland Police Sergeant was flagged down by a Cuyahoga County Protective Services Officer.
The officer informed the sergeant that she believed she observed a male with a firearm.
The sergeant attempted to detain the suspect and ordered him to stop.
Officers report that the suspect immediately began to run away while drawing a revolver from his waistband.
As the suspect male was running away and got out of the sight of the officers, a gunshot was heard.
Additional officers were dispatched to the area to search for the suspect.
Officers located the suspect, who was found hiding in the backyard of a home in the 2200 block of E. 87th Street.
The teen suspect was arrested and a loaded handgun was recovered.
Neither the suspect or any of the involved officers were injured from gunfire.
The teen was charged with discharging a firearm within city limits and carrying a concealed weapon.
Saturday's incident happened less than 24 hours after a triple shooting just one block away. At this time there is no word on whether or not the incidents are related.
