MANSFIELD, OH (WOIO) - On March 18 at 7:09 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the 700 block of Laver Road in Mansfield for a burglary in progress. The caller reported that she could hear someone inside the residence. She told dispatch that the door had been opened and there were possible drugs involved.
When deputies arrived, they opened the door to the apartment complex hallway and smelled a strong odor of marijuana. They heard multiple individuals inside Apartment #1. At that time, an individual left the apartment and denied that anyone else was inside. However, when deputies knocked on the door, five individuals came out of the apartment. All five were detained.
Deputies say once the door was open, they could smell a strong odor of marijuana and see illegal items in plain view.
Deputies found the following inside:
-A large baggie of marijuana
-Raid rat poison
-A large roll of money totaling $8,060
-Sheets of wax paper containing marijuana wax, which is known to be 80 percent pure THC, valued at five times the amount per gram as marijuana
All six individuals involved were identified and transported to the Richland County Sheriff's Office.
The property manager advised that the tenants of Apartment #1 had moved out around March 14.
METRICH assisted in the investigation, which will be forwarded to the Richland County Prosecutor's Office for review.
