Investigation launched after body found in Perry Township creek

PERRY TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) - On Friday around 2:32 p.m., the Richland County Sheriff's Office received the report of a deceased male in a creek located in the 2000 block of Eckert Road in Perry Township. 

Responding deputies confirmed the report and contacted the Richland County Coroner's Office. Detectives also responded. 

According to the report, the victim was found in the creek next to his house. Money, a knife, his keys and a gold ring were found on the male. 

The coroner will now perform an autopsy. Positive identification and cause of death are pending. 

This case remains open for investigation by the sheriff's major crimes section, along with the coroner's office.
