WILLOUGHBY, OH (WOIO) - An investigation in Willoughby is underway after someone broke through the locked gate at the Willoughby City Shredder Plant on Pelton Road and dumped hundreds of used tires behind the building.
The property is city owned and used to be a landfill. The property can only be accessed through the gated drive. The city has maintained a lock on the gate and is only used by City Service employees for storage. It is not open to the general public.
At this time, it is unknown who is responsible. The city estimated that it will cost $1500 to repair the gate and remove and dispose of all of the tires. It was possible that a large truck or dump truck was used to run over the gate to get inside.
The Willoughby Police Department is asking anyone with any information leading to the identity of the persons responsible to give them a call. Willoughby Police was not aware of a similar incident that occurred in Warren, Ohio.
They are not sure if the two incidents are related.
