STARK COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - Stark County deputies have issued a warning about a possible telephone scam.
Authorities say someone posing as a law enforcement officer is calling citizens, demanding money to pay a warrant.
The caller instructs the victims to provide a pre-paid card, which the caller then uses to scam the victim out of a specified amount of money.
Stark County Sheriff George T. Maier reminds residents that law enforcement officers will never ask for money over the phone or with a cash card.
If you receive a phone call like this, you're asked to contact police or the sheriff's office.
