Governor Kasich signs transportation budget

Governor John Kasich signed the 2016-2017 Transportation Budget Bill (Sub. H.B. 53) into law.

The $5 billion bill will help fund approximately 1,600 construction and maintenance projects across Ohio, including the second phase of Cleveland's Opportunity Corridor. That controversial stretch of road will eventually connect I-490 with University Circle.

Other highlights of the new budget include:

•  $600 million to local governments for road and bridge improvements;
•  A new, innovative contracting process to streamline government and save taxpayer dollars;
•  Reforms to driver training that make Ohio roads safer.
