Coast Guard pollution responders are investigating a potential spill of an unknown substance in Lake Erie at the Forest City Yacht Club.

Contractors from Clean Harbors spent Friday night looking into the matter, which may have included clean-up operations.

On Saturday, as of 9:20 a.m., there were no new updates with information as to whether or not the substance has been identified.

We expect that details will be forthcoming in the afternoon hours.

Shortly before noon on Friday, Marine Safety Unit Cleveland pollution responders received a report from Forest City Yacht Club of an unknown substance in the yacht club basin.

The substance is covering an area of roughly 50 by 100 yards inside the yacht club basin.  MSU Cleveland responders are working to determine the source of the substance.

Attempts Friday afternoon to gain an aerial view of the area were unsuccessful, due to weather conditions.
