AKRON, OH (WOIO) - An Akron firefighter is behind bars after being arrested in possession of crack cocaine overnight.

John Howell, 30, has been charged with felony drug abuse.

Lt. Rick Edwards with Akron Police says officers were called to a home in the 700 block of North Howard Street at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday for suspicion of drug use. Officers say Howell was leaving the home in his Pontiac Torrent and when he turned, he failed to signal and was pulled over.

When police searched the car, they found a contact case with crack in it wedged between the driver and passenger seats. The drug tested positive at the scene.

Howell remains in the Summit County Jail and will be arraigned Thursday morning in Akron Municipal Court
