Lawsuit filed over alleged harassment at Lakewood dog park

LAKEWOOD, OH (WOIO) -

A man has filed a lawsuit against the city of Lakewood after he says a Lakewood animal warden violated his civil rights.

Fairview Park resident Patrick Boyd is suing the city because he says the officer ordered him to put his service dog, a pit bull, on a leash.

According to court documents 19 Action News obtained, Boyd visited the Lakewood dog park in May 2014 with his service dog.

Animal warden Jack Crawford told Boyd to put the dog on a leash. The lawsuit claims that Boyd provided paperwork indicated the pit bull was a service dog.

Boyd was summoned to court over the incident, and the judge dismissed all charges finding that the dog was not required to be on leash.

The lawsuit claims that when Boyd returned to the park in November 2014, the same officer approached him again with the same demands.

Boyd is suing city of Lakewood for $225,000.

City officials did not return our calls for an interview. We also reached out to Boyd, but he was not available.
