DOWNTOWN CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Cleveland City Council voted Monday night to raise parking fees at all city-owned meters, lots and garages.

The legislation passed 16-1, with only Councilman Zack Reed voting against the ordinance.

Rates at meters downtown will increase to $0.75 or $1, depending on location. Hourly and daily rates at city-owned lots and garages will increase $1. Special event rates will increase from $20 to $25, up to $30.

It has been more than 20 years since the city has raised meter fees. The city last raised garage and lot fees in 2003.

The city hopes to raise around $8 million with the new rates. Reed says that revenue made by city-owned parking must be used to pay back city debt.

The city also voted to open the Muni Lot for overnight parking.
