2015 NFL Draft, player profile: Jaelen Strong

The Cleveland Browns own the 12th and 19th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. This is a player profile guide of potential player the Browns can draft. Day 11 will feature Arizona State wide receiver Jaelen Strong.

Strong has eclipsed the 1,000 yard receiving mark in each of his two seasons with Arizona State, 1,165 in 2014 and 1,122 in 2013. Strong scored 17 total touchdowns in his college career with the Sun Devils.

In 2014, Strong played 12 games and was selected First-team All-Pac 12 and a Biletnikoff Award semifinalist. In 2013, he was named Second-team All-Pac 12.

Strong spent his first two years at Los Angeles Pierce College where he had 1,263 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns in 2012, but did not play in the 2011 season due to academic reasons.

Jaelen Strong recently had surgery on his wrist but is not expected to miss much time. Strong brings great speed for his position and has good height and weight for a wide receiver (6'2" 217 lbs.). His strength is going after the ball with his good arm and hand strength, with the ability to create space from the defender on short cross routes but struggles with breaking away from the defender on deep routes. His weakness is that he is still learning to play the position and takes a time to build up speed.

To begin the offseason, the Browns had a glaring hole at wide receiver when Josh Gordon was suspended for the 2015-16 season. The Browns got wide receivers Brain Hartline and Dwayne Bowe in the offseason to fill that need, but only signed for short-term contracts, they could look for the long term answer in the 2015 draft.

2015 NFL Combine results:

4.44 40-yard dash

42 inch vertical jump

123 inch broad jump.

The first round of the 2015 NFL Draft beings on Thursday, April 30.
