The Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Boston Celtics 99-91 in Game 2 of the first round of the NBA Playoffs.
The Cavaliers take a 2-0 series lead on the Celtics after the victory Tuesday night. Much like Game 1, the Cavs started off cold, starting the game down 16-8 in the first quarter. The Cavs would go on a 10-4 run to get within reach and would end the quarter only down one point, 26-25. J.R Smith started cold, shooting 0-of-3 from the three point arc in the first half. Kyrie on the other hand, picked up where he left off shooting 5-of-8 with 12-points in the first half. The Cavs finished the first half with a 51-50 lead on the Celtics. In the third quarter, the Cavs would separate from the Celtics jumping to a 14-point lead on multiple alley-oops. However the lead would diminish and the Celtics would fight back making it a 75-68 ball game to end the third quarter. The Celtics third quarter push would continue into the fourth quarter, getting within 2 points with 9 minutes left in the game. That would be the closest the Celtics would get, the Cavaliers finally started to separate themselves from the Celtics, taking a 91-84 lead with 5:26 left in the game.
LeBron James led the game with 30 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assist. Tristan Thompson didn't score a single point in the game, but grabbed the biggest rebounds of the game down the stretch, Thompson finished with 11 rebounds. As for the other Cavaliers, Kyrie Irving finished with 26 points, 6 assist and 5 rebounds. The Cavaliers big man, Timofey Mozgov continues his success against the Celtics and scored 16 points and took down 7 boards. As a whole the team shot 45% from the field and 24% from the 3-point arc.
The Cavaliers lead the series 2-0 and will travel to Boston for Games 3 and 4. Game 3 will be played on Thursday night at 7:00 P.M., Game 4 to be played on Sunday at 1:00 P.M. If necessary, Game 5 will be played on Tuesday night at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.
