EAST CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - A family says their child was struck and killed by an East Cleveland service truck because he was being chased by a bully. But the family of that accused bully says that's not true.
Days after being hit by a city truck, 9-year-old Devion Lesure died. A family, now part of an
investigation, feels as if they have been backed into a corner.
Ann Marie Campbell's son is the subject of the investigation, after witnesses claim he was bullying Devion, who then ran into the road to escape. The accident happened after a group of young students got off the bus from school.
"We're all devastated. We're hurt. We're sick and we're sad," Campbell said. "I'm very sympathetic to the family, but at this point, I'm frustrated. My son is not a bully."
Campbell said she's heard the claims her son threw a brick at Devion, which led him to run.
"I am just asking people that really don't know, stop talking. My son didn't brick nobody. My son didn't do anything like that," she said.
Campbell has not sent her son back to school yet. She says he spends most of his days crying. The mother says East Cleveland Schools have been helpful providing schoolwork.
"Our hearts all go out to the family of the young man, but please stop torturing my family in the process, because this is pure torture," Campbell said.
