Coroner: Suspect dies after day-long Mansfield standoff

MANSFIELD, OH (WOIO) - say a standoff involving an armed suspect who threatened a

worker is finally over, but the suspect has died.

Police say the employee went to the home at 36 Randall Road around 8:30 a.m. Monday. The resident there, David Parker, reportedly came outside armed with an assault rifle. The employee was not injured and called police.

During the standoff on Monday, authorities say Parker fired several shots at police and they shot back. It's unclear if Parker was injured at this time but police cruisers were damaged.

The standoff ended Tuesday around 11 a.m. Parker eventually came outside, and he was taken away in an ambulance.

According to the

, Parker died at a hospital shortly before 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. The coroner says Parker died from a single gunshot wound to the head. He has not said if the gunshot was self-inflicted.

A motive is unknown.
