Victims ID'd in 2 weekend homicides

Two people are dead after separate shootings over the weekend.

The Cleveland Division of Police Homicide Unit is investigating the death of a 57-year-old black male that happened in his home on Sunday around 12:30 a.m. According to CPD, officers responded to 2901 Archwood Avenue for shots fired/a male shot. Upon arrival, officers conferred with Hayward Daniel, who was able to provide information relative to a suspect description. Witnesses say Daniel confronted the suspect about urinating outside of his apartment building. When an argument followed, shots were fired.

Police say Daniel sustained a gunshot wound to his right arm. He was conveyed to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

The suspect is described as a black male, in his late teens or early 20s, about 6' tall, weighing 185 pounds with a bald fade haircut and dreadlocks on the top of his head.

The homicide unit is also investigating the death of a 32-year-old black female that happened Sunday morning around 3:50. Police say officers responded to 14901 Edgewood Avenue for a female slumped over in a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers found Dawn Welch to be conscious with multiple gunshot wounds to the head and body, and a male was rendering aid to her. One patrol officer assisted the male in rendering aid as information was gathered from Welch.

She reported being shot by a black male, light complexion, approximately 6' tall, wearing a light blue and tan sweatshirt and pants.

Welch was transported to MetroHealth, where she later died from her injuries.

So far, no arrests have been made in either homicide. Anyone with more information is urged to contact homicide investigators at 216-623-5464.
