has begun a $3.7 million project to replace the now narrow and outdated bridge which carries Canal Road under the Norfolk Southern railroad (and over the CSX railroad), near the intersection of Commercial Road and the East 9th Street Extension in Cleveland's Flats.
While the new bridge is being built, crews placed a temporary signal to maintain one lane of traffic on the bridge. This will remain until the project is complete. The signal will be tied to the movement of the West 3rd Street Lift Bridge. When the bridge is up, traffic heading toward West 3rd will be stopped at the signal.
Once the project is complete in the winter of 2016, the bridge will carry two, widened lanes as well as 15 foot sidewalk for pedestrians.
