has announced the capture of fugitive Hakeem Makin, who has been on the run since 2014.
Makin was wanted by the
. He has been wanted since 2014 for assault on a police officer and numerous drug charges, after he allegedly attempted to run over a police officer in his vehicle. More recently, Makin was involved in another vehicle pursuit in Lakewood and was charged with failure to comply with police orders. He was featured on local billboards and as the Marshals' Fugitive of the Week.
According to U.S. Marshals, members of the NOVFTF closed in on Makin in Lakewood around 7:15 p.m. Monday. After attempting to arrest Makin, he once again fled law enforcement and ran his vehicle into the vehicle of a Deputy U.S. Marshal.
A chase pursued and Makin was captured off interstate near Eddy Road after a lengthy pursuit by teams of Marshals, Cleveland Police and Lakewood officers. Tips from the public led to the capture of this violent fugitive.
"It is always satisfying for us in law enforcement to take a violent fugitive off the streets and it is even more satisfying to take a violent fugitive who assaults police officers during Police Memorial Week off of the streets," said Peter Elliott, U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of Ohio. "I praise the work of all the law enforcement officers who risk their lives daily."
