Bill Safos reflects on the life-changing day he met Amanda Berry's mother

Bill Safos spent countless hours helping Louwana Miller search for her daughter Amanda Berry. Here, Bill tells the story of the first day he met Miller and how she changed his life as a journalist and a person:

"She walked with a mission. I was cutting across the newsroom and out of the corner of my eye I could tell she had something important to say. She wasted no time rushing through the first set of glass doors. One of the others with her reached for the second set of doors, but she wasn't waiting. She yanked on them and for some reason, they weren't supposed to pop open but they did. This woman who was clearly on a mission peaked my curiosity. I had to hear what she was about to say. I didn't know she was about to force a change in the "rundown" of our evening newscast. She was going to change the way I "chase down" a story and make sure I never give up fighting to tell the important ones.

When Louwana Miller saw her daughter Amanda's picture on the air, I thought she would be glad. After all, she wanted me to get the word out, and I did. The thanks was quick and so was the question about what's my next angle? Louwana Miller exhausted me and inspired me all at the same time. It's no wonder her sisters wouldn't give searching up for Mandy either. I miss her "middle of the night" calls. I never could bring her daughter home but each night as I put my head on my pillow, I knew I did all I could to bring Amanda's story into your homes.

Of course, it is not just Amanda's family who found the way into my heart. Felix DeJesus and Nancy Ruiz, Gina's parents are the real life supeheroes of Cleveland and my world. With their own daughter missing they are always among first to help bring other kids home."
