Cleveland Police have arrested and charged 30-year-old Lindsey Curry in connection with a felonious assault shooting on Willowdale Avenue Saturday morning. Curry is reportedly the uncle of the two children who were shot. He was at the home when the shooting happened.
Police were called to a residence in the 2000 block of Willowdale Avenue after receiving a call for children shot.
Officers say a 9-year-old girl and 2-year-old boy were driven to MetroHealth Medical Center in a private vehicle. They both suffered gunshot wounds to the torso and are listed in critical condition. Police say a bullet first hit the boy, then hit the girl.
Detectives are working to determine what led to the shooting. No weapon has been recovered.
Lt. Ali Pillow said there were other children, including a 10-year-old, 4-year-old, and 6-month-old baby, inside the home during the incident. They were not injured. The victims' parents were also inside the home.
"It's sad. We weren't expecting this to happen or nothing like that. It was just out of the blue," said a cousin of the victims.
Neighbors say the family is new to the area, after moving in just five months ago.
Curry is charged with obstruction of official police business. He is being held on a $100,000 bond.
Curry does have a criminal record, including convictions of drug possession and assault.
