BAY VILLAGE, OH (WOIO) - Residents in Bay Village are gearing up for another round of heavy rain after flooding left many families cleaning up their basements.
The neighborhood at Walker Road and Walmar Drive in Bay Village was hit pretty hard.
Residents are still cleaning up. Some are worried about more rain. Others say if they're going to get hit, they'd rather it happen now.
The memory of piled up carpet, furniture on the curbs and water filling basements has not faded.
"My daughter woke me up and said, 'Mommy, there's water coming in the basement.' And there was probably a foot or so at the bottom of my driveway, a foot in the garage," said Tamar Springel.
Her family room is in her basement.
After the flooding, Tamar's family had to pull out the carpeting, paneling and drywall. They had to demolish the bathroom, but they saved their electronics.
It was really bad timing.
"I was 39 weeks pregnant when this all happened, waiting for a baby any day. Now we have a one week old," Springel said.
Now she's left cleaning up this mess with a newborn in the house.
Neighbors up and down the block are still cleaning up too. Many are facing thousands of dollars in damage.
Springel hopes their basement can handle more rain, but she isn't losing sleep over any more possible flooding.
"This point would be a great time because the basement's not refinished yet. So the drywall's out, the flooring is out. I don't think there's anything more that can be destroyed at this point. So if it's going to happen it can happen now," she said.
Residents hope the drains and the pumping stations keep up with all the rain forecast for Thursday.
