Local vs. National: Why your weather app should come from home

NORTHEAST OHIO (WOIO) -

Chief Meteorologist Jeff Tanchak and his intern, Kent State meteorology student Robert Carroll set the record straight about weather apps on your smartphone.

When you have a choice between a national app and a local app, Tanchak and Carroll break down why you should choose the local option.

The top reason involves updates: The First Alert Weather App is updated by 19 Action News meteorologists and forecasters who are skilled at detecting weather patterns that affect northeast Ohio.

National apps may fail to take into consideration local features. In Cleveland, Lake Erie plays a major role in our day-to-day forecasts. A national meteorologist will likely not take that or any other northeast Ohio nuances and features into consideration.
