AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh says Edgardo Cheverez, 26, of Akron, pleaded guilty in connection to Antwaun Smith's death last summer.

In court on Thursday, Cheverez pleaded guilty to aggravated murder, a special felony, and repeat violent offender specification.

On Aug. 19, 2014, Cheverez beat Smith to death with a tree limb, while Smith was apparently sleeping on a bench at Akron's Grace Park. Both Smith and Cheverez were known to be homeless at the time. The two had been arguing over hair clippers.

Cheverez is set to be sentenced on Sept. 14.
