Approximately 1,500 people participated Saturday morning in the 10th annual Wigs for Kids Day at the Cleveland MetroParks Zoo.
The event provides high-quality, customized wigs for children who experience severe hair loss due to medical issues at no cost to their families
More than $100,000 was raised and about 90 people had their long locks snipped.
The event included a 5K run; a one-mile "fun walk"; a hair cut-a-thon; live entertainment; costumed "super heroes"; and a "Kids Zone" with crafts, face painting, and other activities.
The Olmsted Performing Arts Center's "Disney Dance Team," comprised of young people ages six to 17 performed at the event. Stylists from La Barberia and Great Clips, which co-hosted the cut-a-thon, provided a free styling and blow-dry for everyone who donated their hair at the event.
