AMHERST, OH (WOIO) - Emergency crews responded after a car crashed into a home into the 8700 block of Leavitt Road in Amherst Tuesday around 7:45 a.m.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says Adrianna Young, 23, of Oberlin, was driving her Toyota Camry southbound on state Route 58, just south of state Route 113, when she drove off the right side of the roadway, through a grassy field, ramped off a basement doorway, and flew into the living room.

According to the OSHP, Debra Majkut, 34, was in the living room with her infant when they were both struck by the vehicle. Two other people were inside the home but were not injured.

Debra was trapped under the vehicle and  pronounced dead at the scene.

The infant was transported to Amherst Hospital and then flown by air ambulance to Cleveland MetroHealth Hospital. The 5-month-old has non-life-threatening injuries and is listed in stable condition.

Andrew and Ashley Koviak are neighbors and heard the accident happen. Andrew rushed over and a 12-year-old boy who lived in the home said something he'll never forget

"I know my mom is dead can you just save my little brother," the boy said.

Koviak lifted the back end of the Camry and his wife Ashley and the little boy crawled under the car and pulled out the baby.

"It was terrifying the only thing I could think was I have to get this baby out. I just knew, at that point, it's just instinct you do what you have to do to save a life," Ashley said.

The OSHP says Young was not wearing a seatbelt.

The investigation continues.
