AKRON: Man found dead near gas station shootout

AKRON, OH (WOIO) - On Saturday, August 1, Akron Police responded to a shots fired at the Circle K Gas Station on Copley Road.

Although many details have not been made available, 19 Action News has learned that one person was shot and killed nearby.

The Summit County Coroner has identified 27-year-old James C. Tyler as the man who was found dead on Peerless Avenue.

It has not been confirmed whether Tyler's death is connected to the shootout at the gas station.

The Akron Police Department has not been available for comment and continue to look for answers.

A group of community members say they will hold a press conference at City Hall to ask anyone involved in deadly street activity to put down their weapons and bring an end to the violence plaguing the city.
