LORAIN COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -

Police in Brighton Township have arrested and charged three people in Tuesday's deadly house fire.

The body of Eric Zaffer was found inside a burning home on Peck-Wadsworth Road during a fire call on August 4.

"Went over there, yelling for Eric to try and see if he was awake or awaken him," said Sharon Willbond.

According to the sheriff's office the 45-year-old Zaffer was shot at least once before the fire was set.

While detectives began looking in to Zaffer's death, deputies got what they thought was an unrelated call about a break in at Elyria Country Club.

"We received a tip that a house down on Greenview Drive in Carlisle Township would be a good area to start with the investigation due to some tips they had," said Lt. Heath Tester.

In it they found the items stolen from the country club, along with a bucket of change with a rewards card registered to the victim, his cell phone, and the suspected murder weapon.

Bishop Howard, 18, Trevor White, 19, and Ryan Crews, 21, have each been charged with aggravated murder and aggravated robbery.

Police say Howard has admitted to being the trigger man. "He admitted along with Ryan Crews to being involved in this. Trevor White also gave some admittance," said Detective Randall Koubeck.

The Lorain County coroner has not yet released Zaffer's cause of death.

The Lorain County Sheriff's Department is still investigating the connection between the suspects and the victim but it's believed to be related to the similar marijuana found at the victim and suspects' house.

Detectives are also combing through other items found at the suspects' home to see if they can connect them to any other crimes.
