The GOP debates took center stage in downtown Cleveland at the "Q".
The first debate, at 5 p.m., consisted of former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, former Pennsylvania Sen Rick Santorum, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, former technology executive Carly Fiorina, Sen. Lindsey Graham, former NY Gov. George Pataki, and former VA Gov. Jim Gilmore.
The main debate began at 9 p.m. Businessman Donald Trump, former FL Gov. Jeb Bush, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, surgeon and tea party favorite Ben Carson, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Marco Rubio, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Gov. John Kasich went head to head.
19 Action News watched the debate with a group from the Ashbrook Center at Ashland University. Panelists took plenty of notes and listened intently to the candidates' words.
Before the debate we took a straw poll. The top three were Gov. Scott Walker, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Ben Carson. That didn't change much after the debate. Gov. John Kasich picked up one more vote after the debate, knocking Carson out of the panel's top three.
