Intruder killed by resident during home invasion ID'd, 2nd suspect on the run

Neighbors describe fatal home invasion

AKRON, OH (WOIO) - Akron police are investigating a deadly home invasion.

It happened just after 2 p.m. in the 1500 block of Hilbish Ave.

Police said two suspects broke into the home and tried to rob the three people inside. David Hillis grabbed a handgun, and after a brief struggle, one of the suspects, 25-year-old Marcus Glover, was shot and killed. His body was found several doors down.

The second suspect ran and police are still searching for him. He is described as a black male, early 20's, wearing a white shirt and dark pants. Anyone with information or know where the suspect is, call Akron detectives at (330) 375-2490.

Meantime, Hillis' father was arrested during the investigation. Police said Mike Hillis came to the scene, went under the yellow crime tape and refused to cooperate with police. He was arrested and charged with misconduct at a crime scene and disorderly conduct. Hillis is a former deputy chief with the Summit County Sheriff's Office.

Neighbor Skylar Fields, 12, heard the gunshots ring out.

"I thought it was firecrackers at the time and neighbors at the house thought it was too," said Skylar.

Skylar also said she saw a man running through her neighbor's yard.

"It was scary after police came and we found out someone got killed," she said.

"Earlier in the day, two young men were dropped off and went into the home. So I don't know what transpired between the time they went in the home and the time shots were fired," said a neighbor who asked to remain anonymous.

Right now, police said they are investigating the shooting as a homicide but no word on any charges. They are taking statements and speaking with witnesses.
