. - The Miceli's Dairy Products manufacturing facility sits on 30 acres of property near Buckeye Rd. and Woodland Ave. It's been
there since 1949. The family has recently put $20 million into the neighborhood and they have plans to expand even further.
In just a single day, staff at Miceli's Dairy Products can now crank out 150,000 pounds of ricotta cheese. They've essentially doubled their capacity for production of the cheese that represents about 75% of their output.
In the last two years they completed a three part expansion, including a welcome center, a better dock facility and amenities for their employees, and a new milk intake center, which improved efficiency and doubles what they can take in each day.
"In the years to come we'd like to add out into the brown field area behind us, maybe something along the lines of a specialty mozzarella facility," said
Jonathan Miceli, one of seven third generation family members who help run the company.
He says putting money into the neighborhood is what they've always done.
"There's always the consideration of going somewhere else, but we would lose part of what makes us us, which is the authenticity of not just being an authentically Italian branded cheese, but an authentic Cleveland company," he said.
Miceli says they saw the potential in staying here, and were encouraged by what the city was doing too.
"In the last few years they put quite a bit into rebuilding the rapid transit stop, by here which has been a big help to our employees. And I know they've got the opportunity corridor right around the corner," he said.
