WAYNE COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - The Wooster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred at some time around 2:29 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2015.
It happened on Five Points Rd (County Road 120) west of N. Crown Hill Rd. (Township Road 47) in Wayne County.
The driver, Elijah M. Mcatee, 19, of Wooster, was headed west on Five Points Rd. when the vehicle lost control and went off the right side of the road. The vehicle then struck a ditch before overturning and striking a utility pole.
Mcatee was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
There were three other passengers inside of the vehicle at the time of the crash.
The right front seat passenger, 45-year-old Thomas P. Shields of Orrville, suffered serious injuries and was conveyed to Aultman Orrville Hospital.
In the right rear seat was 18-year-old Brent Shields of Orrville. He was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and sustained serious injuries.
Shields was transported to Akron City Hospital for treatment.
Also in the back seat, on the left side was, 17-year-old Jordan E. Bailey of Orrville.
Bailey was also ejected but only sustained minor injuries and was transported to Aultman Orrville Hospital for treatment.
No one was wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash.
In addition to Highway Patrol Officers, Orrville Fire and EMS, Wayne County Coroner, Wayne County Sheriff's Department and the Ohio State Highway Patrol Crash Reconstruction Unit also responded.
The crash remains under investigation.
Authorities say this is the 10th fatal crash in Wayne County in 2015.
