AKRON, OH (WOIO) - A Saturday drive-by shooting in Akron has left a 32-year-old man dead and a woman in her late 20s wounded.
It happened in broad daylight around 5 p.m. when the suspect(s) drove up near the pair on Maxen Drive at Fess Avenue in the area of Vernon Odom Boulevard. According to Capt. Zampelli of the Akron Police Department, the victims were standing at the intersection when shots were fired from the car.
Detectives are working to get a description of the suspect vehicle.
Zampelli says that although they have heard the incident may be connected to another shooting, there is no evidence to prove that it was retaliatory.
The female victim has been hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The male has been identified as Michael J. Herring, of Akron.
Autopsy shows the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the chest. The manner of death is homicide.
A makeshift memorial now grows at the site of the shooting.
