MEDINA, OH (WOIO) - A 35-year-old Medina man accused of keeping his dead one-year-old's body in a crib in his apartment pled not guilty by reason of insanity Monday.

Eric Warfel appeared in court around 9 a.m. after being indicted last week. He is accused of abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.

A cable guy found the body of Warfel's one-year-old daughter, Ember, on July 29. According to police, the worker was doing repair work in Warfel's Forest Meadows apartment when he saw the badly decomposed child's body in a crib.

Police say Warfel was out with his seven-year-old daughter when the discovery was made.

Ember's cause of death is still a mystery.

Warfel will be back in court on November 9.
