A new app could help put an end to the thousands of robocalls that are generated each minute.
The free app "Fake-A-Fax" claims to diminish those unwanted calls.
The title says it's all.
When you get an unwanted call, the app allows you to generate three different tones.
You can select a fax machine, the disconnected number noise, or a busy line.
Simply launch the app and put it up to the speaker of your home phone.
The app maker says it spoofs the caller to believe your phone line is a bad number.
It is advertised to stop the unwanted calls permanently.
Tina Wright has not tried the Fake-A-Fax option on her home phone, she swears by the free White Pages app for calls to her cell.
"It has really helped," Wright said. "Even if a number isn't blocked, my phone doesn't even ring. It just goes straight to spam."
A campaign is currently underway by the Consumers Union to push major phone companies to provide free tools to block unwanted robocalls before they get to you.
More than 200,000 people have already signed the petition.
