PORTAGE COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - Police arrested a man after a crash that left a motorcycle driver dead. Thursday Aug. 13 at approximately 5:40 a.m., just north of Hiram, police say Evan Carter, 28, turned into the path of Billy Rodman, 58, of Newton Falls.
Rodman's motorcycle struck the right side of Carter's 2010 Subaru Legacy, ejecting Rodman who landed in the southbound lane of SR700 where he was struck by a Volkswagen Jetta.
Rodman was treated at the scene by the Hiram Fire Department, but was pronounced dead at the scene by the Portage County Coroner. There were no other injuries.
Carter of Garrettsville, who had one prior conviction for DWI, was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested at the scene. His blood alcohol level was more than two times the legal limit, as he tested .208%.
He was also found to be driving under a suspended license. Carter was incarcerated at the Portage County Jail, charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, a 2nd degree felony, along with OVI, driving with a suspended license, and failure to yield.
No bond has been set yet. Carter will be in court on Friday Aug. 18 in the Portage County Municipal Court.
