ASHLAND, OH (WOIO) - On Thursday morning, Brock Martin, 25, of Ashland, was charged with aggravated burglary, kidnapping and rape, after an incident on Aug. 18 around 6:30 a.m.
Ashland Police say officers responded to an Orange Road residence in response to a disturbance and possible assault.
Police investigation revealed that Martin had forced open a window at a residence and took a 6-year-old girl, who was asleep in her bed. Police say Martin carried the girl into the residence's backyard and began sexually assaulting her.
According to police, Martin fled on foot when he was confronted by a household member, who inadvertently saw what was happening. The witness briefly gave chase and told neighbors to call police.
Neighbors then directed responding officers to the wooded area behind a church, where they saw Martin running.
An Ashland police officer and Ashland County sheriff's deputy tried to confront Martin, who continued running into the wooded area. Another police officer then deployed his K-9, who was able to stop Martin.
