AKRON, OH (WOIO) - It's a girl! For the first time in its history a Chilean flamingo chick has successfully hatched at the Akron Zoo. Because she will not be big enough to be with the flock for several months, the chick will not go on exhibit until the spring.
It took 26 days for the baby flamingo to develop in her egg, and 36 hours to fully emerge. The baby chick weighed a tiny 96 grams at birth.
When she is big enough she will join a flock of 23 Chilean flamingos at the Akron Zoo's Legends of the Wild area.
