PARMA HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) -

Back in May, Dave Kaszar and fellow Parma Heights firefighters ran the Cleveland Marathon in full gear, to honor his father who was battling ALS.

Phil Kaszar was diagnosed with ALS nearly three years ago. He was waiting at the finish line for his son, where they had an emotional embrace.

On Wednesday, Dave says his father died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family.

“He fought until the very end and always lived his life to the PHILest,” Dave posted on his Facebook page.

Not only did they raise awareness, but they also raised $23,715.31! Click here if you would like to help donate.
