NEW RUSSIA TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) -

Investigators with the Ohio State Highway Patrol are looking for a driver they say struck a cyclist then fled the scene Saturday afternoon.

The cyclist, 70-year-old Charles A Startup of Oberlin, was heading east on Butternut Ridge Road in New Russia Township when he was struck from behind by a dark-colored Ford just before 5 p.m.

The Ford may be a 2012 Focus. A witness told investigators that the car slowed down, then fled the scene at a high rate of speed.

Startup was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. He was wearing a helmet.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Elyria Post at (440) 365-5045.
