HIRAM, OH (WOIO) -

Hiram police were responding to a call Sunday when their cruiser went off the road and caught fire.

Officers said they were on their way to help the Ohio State Highway Patrol at a home on Silica Sands Road at about 6:30 p.m.

While they were driving eastbound on State Route 82, their cruiser went off the road near Bryant Road and into a culvert. The officers got out of the cruiser as the engine became engulfed in flames.

Portage County Sheriff's Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the scene as well as Hiram Fire and EMS, Garrettsville Fire, Community Ambulance, and Windham Fire and EMS.

Both Hiram police officers were transported to University Hospital in Ravenna by Hiram EMS and Community Ambulance, where they were treated and released.
