CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - After being on the run for more than one month, the man accused of beating his girlfriend to death appeared in court Wednesday.

Carlton Springer plead not guilty at his arraignment and a judge set his bond at $500,000.

Springer was wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service and Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority Police for domestic violence and felonious assault.

Police say he viciously beat up his girlfriend, Theresa Adair, after an argument. Adair sustained severe head trauma and was taken to the emergency room. She died a few days later after being taken off life support.

Springer was arrested by police on Monday night. They have not said how or where he was taken into custody.
