Police: Tanning nanny leaves kids in car

ROCKY RIVER, OH (WOIO) - A Rocky River nanny should look good in her mugshot. Police say she left two kids, ages 3 and 6, inside a car while she went tanning.

"I stood up and said, 'It is not okay' and I screamed it at her," said Nikai Boyarko.

Last Thursday, Boyarko witnessed 22-year-old Hannah Loparich walk into Neon Beach tanning salon without the children she drove in with.

"I wouldn't leave a dog in the car, let alone children. And it really made me uncomfortable, which is why I said something," explained Boyarko.

Boyarko called Rocky River Police. When officers got to the scene, they found the car with the unattended kids.

"The windows to the car were down and the keys were left on the dash. The children were just sitting in the vehicle," said Kelly Stillman, Chief of Rocky River Police.

Loparich was arrested and the children were turned over to their mother.

Police say Loparich wasn't very remorseful.

"She was just kind of like, 'No, I didn't know this was illegal.' Which I find hard to believe, especially in today's society," said Stillman.

We're told Loparich has been fired.

"She told me it was okay because she left the windows open and that's what made me the angriest. You can't just -- it's not a dog! I wouldn't even do that to my dog. It's a child," said Boyarko.

Police say the entire situation is disturbing. They're just glad people stood up.

"I could've saved a life. I don't know. I hope I never have to know if something worse could've happened," said Boyarko.

Loparich faces 2 charges child endangerment, which are first-degree misdemeanors. She'll be arraigned on Wednesday.

Cleveland 19 reached out to Loparich, but she did not return our calls.
