MASSILLON, OH (WOIO) - Perry Local Schools in Stark County were on lockdown a short time Monday, due to a nearby incident.
Massillon Police say on Sunday morning they responded to a domestic situation in the 1800 block of Lincoln Way East after Forrest Sunkle went to his ex-wife's house to confront her, violating a protection order. Police say he had a gun and a struggle ensued, but the gun jammed when he tried to shoot. The woman was not injured and escaped to a neighbor's home. Sunkle also fled the scene in his truck.
After a police briefing Monday morning, an observant detective in an unmarked vehicle saw Sunkle test driving a truck and called for back-up.
As additional units responded, they tried to initiate a traffic stop, but police say Sunkle refused to stop. Police followed Sunkle for a couple of miles until he finally pulled over on 13th Street by Perry Local Schools.
The schools were put on lockdown as a precaution. The lockdown was lifted after police arrested Sunkle.
Sunkle faces charges of attempted murder after trying to shoot his ex-wife.
Police say students were never in real danger.
