WESTLAKE, OH (WOIO) - A Westlake family is asking why someone shot their beloved cat and offering a cash reward to find the culprit.
Paul Fletcher tears up when he explains what happened to his 4-year-old black cat named Kirby.
"He's the nicest cat in the world and to do something like that, it's crazy. We don't have kids. We have pets, family," says Fletcher.
Fletcher let Kirby out to his Westlake backyard off Westwood Road on Saturday morning. When the pet returned a couple of hours later, he knew something was wrong. Someone had shot the cat.
"He limped in on his three legs and just collapsed. His arm was just hanging and he had what looked like a huge welt on it, in his left arm," explains Fletcher.
Someone shot Kirby with a pellet gun, shattering his entire bone.
Fletcher and his wife rushed their cat to the vet, where he underwent surgery. The vet put a plate in his left arm, along with six pins. Doctors say he's lucky to be alive.
Now, Fletcher just wants to know who did this and hopes it wasn't a cruel Halloween prank. He has filed a police report and is even offering a $2,000 reward to anyone who knows who's behind the senseless act.
"We wanted to make sure that other pets in the area are safe and that people know this is going on," says Fletcher.
Fletcher will pick Kirby up from the vet on Tuesday. Doctors say it will take about two months for him to recover.
If you have any information as to who did this, call Westlake Police at (440) 871-3311.
