NORTH OLMSTED, OH (WOIO) - When the rain really pours in parts of northeast Ohio, it can be hard for storm drains to keep up.
Crews in North Olmsted spent all day Tuesday preparing for the heavy rain headed our way.
"If they don't then they'll just be plugged up and we'll have lots of water backing up in their yard and a significant amount of water could infiltrate into your basement," said Don Glauner, Safety Service Director for the City of North Olmsted.
The city wants residents to lend a helping hand. If you see a catch basin blocked or covered, clear it out with a broom or rake.
If you're not comfortable, call the city at (440) 716-4151.
ODOT crews are also getting a head start. Crews hit I-90 to clear out sewers.
"You know it when it doesn't function properly because our roads are flooded and that's certainly something we want to avoid," said Jocelynn Clemings, spokeswoman for ODOT.
