CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Cleveland police are investigating the shooting of a 4-year-old boy on the city's east side Wednesday night.
The child was shot in the shoulder at a home on Bliss Avenue near East 66th Street at about 5:30 p.m. He was taken to Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital, where police tell us the injuries do not appear life-threatening. He's listed in stable condition.
Police have taken the little boy's father into custody for endangering children and weapons charges.
Police say the child's father first told them the child was shot in a drive-by, then indicated a 5-year-old accidentally fired the shot.
Investigators determined that the shot was fired inside the home and that the father may have accidentally shot the 4-year old.
Police Chief Calvin Williams and Mayor Frank Jackson were also at the scene.
Mayor Jackson said that this latest incident highlights the need for more responsible gun ownership.
Four other kids inside the home at the time of the shooting are now with Children and Family Services.
